Music: “Jet Airliner” by Steve Miller Band
“Goodbye to all my friends at home,
Goodbye to people I've trusted.
I've got to go out and make my way.
I might get rich you know I might get busted.”
Okay, just to let you all know, I’m probably going to be out the first couple of days this week. As I explained it to my friends at my grandparent’s church, I have a job interview in Wyoming tomorrow.
Even though I didn’t hear anything after my trip to Oklahoma, my self-esteem remained high thanks to a number of offers I continued to field.
My strongest lead was the Daily Rocket-Miner, based out of Rocket Springs, Wyoming. They have an opening for a copyediting/design position. It’s a smaller paper than the Columbia Missourian, but there would be some supervisory responsibilities as well. It's the largest paper in Western Wyoming, and I would be overseeing the production desk while I carried out my editing responsibilities.
After had a few talks with the publisher, I was sent a packet of papers to critique, and I was eventually invited to visit them.
I'm scheduled to head out Monday morning, December 12, and come back the 14. I'll be flying out on a Boeing 737-300 to Denver and then hopping on a Beechcraft B100 for the second jump to Rock Springs.
I’ve never been flown out for an interview before, so this is new. Also, though I was offered accommodations for two (So, I was told, I could “bring my spouse"). Since I lack one, I'll be traveling by myself; though I'm sure to be making several phone calls to review notes and strategy (because some things like 401(k) or insurance co-pays are strange and alien concepts to me, like bidets and lox).
I'd appreciate your continued prayers, words of encouragements, and/or pledges to eliminate my competition. I received all three over the last few weeks and greatly enjoyed all of them all. If you would keep me in your thoughts over the next few days, I would be very thankful.
Forgive me for cutting this post short, and for my forthcoming paraphrase of Frost, but I have some side projects I’m working on (as always) and want to sew them up before bed and a subsequent early rising.
And miles to write before I sleep,
And miles to write before I sleep.
